What I offer – right where you are.

Patients

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a form of health-care treatment. In a protected setting, we work together on what is weighing on you or holding you back. I work with the method of Existential Analysis. The first step is often the most important one.

Individual & leadership

Coaching

Coaching helps you gain clarity – in career transitions, when facing decisions or when you want to use your strengths more deliberately. Solution-oriented and on an equal footing.

Growth & orientation

Personal development

Who am I, and who do I want to be? This offering is for people who are not in crisis but who want to work on themselves consciously and grow.

Professionals & teams

Supervision

For individuals and teams: supervision creates perspective on your work, strengthens the capacity to act, and can help prevent burnout. Available as individual, case and team supervision.

Institutions & conferences

Lectures

My lectures move at the intersection of mental health, life's challenges and personal development – from prevention to managing pressure. Topics can be tailored to your setting.

Groups & organisations

Workshops

Tailored workshops – on topics such as resilience, communication, leadership or stress management. Every format is adapted to your group and context, in both content and method.

About me

I accompany people through phases of change, decision and growth.

Lectures & workshops

Selected topics – as a starting point.

The following topics are examples from my practice. I am happy to develop individual topics, formats and focal points together with you.

Resilience & self-leadership9Youth & development9Childhood & early development9
01

Perfectionism in everyday work

The demand to make no mistakes drives us – and slows us down at the same time. Why does perfectionism become a trap, and how do we find a healthy sense of ambition?

02

Mental illnesses

Which mental illnesses exist, how do they differ, and how can we deal with them? Informing, breaking the taboo, easing the pressure.

03

Growth through change

Change comes – whether wanted or not. How do we not only get through transitions, but grow through them? What does a person need in order to reorient without losing themselves?

04

Psychological self-care and resource-oriented work

Psychological self-care is the protection of our mental health. Which measures help us deal constructively with everyday strain? This is how being at the mercy of circumstances turns back into the capacity to act.

05

Dealing with panic

What is panic, and why do panic attacks arise? How can we handle them, and how can loved ones help? Including concrete exercises.

06

Time and life management

How do I get from wish to goal? Why do I procrastinate, and how do I stop? What puts me under pressure, and how do I arrive at good decisions?

07

Foundations of developmental psychology

Fundamentals of developmental psychology and stages of development across the lifespan. Possible challenges in childhood and adolescence. Finding identity and personality development.

08

Anxiety as a consequence of trauma

Trauma does not end when the situation is over. It lives on in the body and in the psyche. What is needed in order to deal with this anxiety and shame?

09

Self-harming behaviour

What counts as self-harming behaviour, and why is it on the rise? The influence of social media, group phenomena – and concrete ways to offer support.

01

Anxiety disorders in adolescents

Anxiety is a meaningful emotion, but what happens when it dominates everyday life? Panic attacks, phobias, compulsions and their significance for adolescents, parents and educators.

02

Borderline in adolescents

Intense, rapidly shifting emotions, self-harm and suicidal ideation often shape the daily lives of those affected. What does this mean for those close to them, and how can we deal with it?

03

Perfectionism in adolescents

Being perfect sometimes becomes a source of identity, a shield against criticism. But the apparent protection is never felt to be enough. How do you break out of this vicious cycle?

04

Learning to regulate emotions

What do children and adolescents need in order to learn to regulate their emotions? And how can adults purposefully support this process?

05

Self-worth and self-efficacy in adolescents

Recognising and making sense of one's own feelings is often hard for adolescents. How does a healthy sense of self-worth develop – and what strengthens the experience of self-efficacy?

06

Stress and the power of role models

Children and adolescents respond to stress with both psychological and physical symptoms. How do they learn to see pressures as something they can handle – and what role do we play as role models?

07

Recognising mental-health warning signs and taking action

Which symptoms point to mental disorders or a developing addiction? How does one act well in an educational role, and which measures actually help?

08

Puberty – when the relationship is put to the test

During puberty, adolescents test whether the relationship with their parents can really be relied on. What does it take to keep the dialogue going – even when it gets difficult?

09

Working with parents under pressure

Working with parents often takes place under tension – and must still succeed. How do you build trust that holds – and how does a shared goal emerge?

01

Children's fears – strengthen, not just soothe

Fears are part of growing up and are among the most common stress responses in children. What are possible causes – and how do you respond in a strengthening way, not just a soothing one?

02

Self-worth from the start

Self-worth does not develop on its own – it needs relationship, role models and honest feedback. How do you support this process consciously and effectively in childhood?

03

Sleep disorders

Early childhood sleep disorders are interactive disorders, because the sleep of both child and parents is equally affected. What can offer support, and how do you respond well?

04

Siblings – between closeness and rivalry

Sibling rivalry arises from the wish for undivided affection. What role do birth order and age gap play – and how do you respond constructively?

05

The birth of the self – guiding autonomy

Between 1.5 and 3.5 years, the child discovers their self – with tantrums, resistance and the drive for independence. How do you guide this phase actively and calmly?

06

Boundaries that give stability

Boundaries need relationship as their frame. Setting boundaries means giving orientation and living values – knowing that they create stability and security.

07

Bedwetting and soiling

Two common but taboo childhood disorders. They carry shame, and those affected withdraw. There is effective help. No one needs to feel ashamed or hide.

08

Behavioural concerns

An overview of the most common behavioural concerns in kindergarten and school age. How can we engage with children supportively and convey a sense of security?

09

Supporting the transition to school

Starting school is an important turning point for both children and parents. How do you prepare children purposefully and sustainably? The necessary skills need time to develop.

Provision of the website

Description and scope of the data processing

Each time the website is accessed, the following personal data is automatically processed, which is essential for the functionality and provision of the website, for ensuring stability and security, and for optimising the information-technology systems. This data is stored temporarily during a session and in log files until it is automatically deleted.

  • Address (URL) of the page accessed, including the request method and any parameters
  • Address of the referring page (referrer URL)
  • Type and version of the browser used
  • Hostname, IP address and the operating system used
  • Date and time of access
  • Status and error information about the connection
  • Information on the volume of data transferred

Legal basis for the data processing

A legitimate interest in the processing and storage of the data mentioned, pursuant to Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO, lies in particular in ensuring a trouble-free connection to and use of the website, monitoring system security and stability, identifying and remedying technical faults, and continuously optimising the service. The temporary processing and storage of the data during a session is essential in order to provide the website to the requesting device. Storing this data in log files is necessary in particular to maintain the functionality of the website and the security of the information-technology systems.

Storage period

The data collected is stored, pursuant to Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO, only for as long as is necessary for the purpose of its collection. Data needed to provide the website is deleted at the end of the respective session. Data in log files is stored for a maximum of fourteen days and then deleted or anonymised, so that it can no longer be attributed to a person. The storage period may be extended beyond this in exceptional cases where this is necessary to investigate security incidents, to defend against attacks on the information-technology systems, or to comply with legal obligations such as statutory retention periods.

Objection and erasure

The collection and processing of the data mentioned is essential for the operation and provision of the website. Likewise, storing this data in log files is necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the information-technology systems. For this reason, there is no possibility of objecting to these processes.

Data security

To secure the processing, transport encryption via HTTPS/TLS is used as a technical measure pursuant to Art. 32 DSGVO. It protects personal data during transmission against unauthorised access and alteration. The encryption is applied in line with the current state of the art.

Contact

Description and scope of the data processing

When you make contact electronically, in addition to the information you voluntarily provide, certain personal data is automatically transmitted and processed. This data is characteristic of the communication channel used and is essential for transmission. It may include information from the following list.

  • E-mail header with technical information about the transmission
  • Hostname and IP address
  • Date and time

Legal basis and purpose of the data processing

In the event of contact, personal data is used pursuant to Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. b DSGVO for handling the matter in the course of fulfilling pre-contractual rights and obligations. This processing is essential for dealing with enquiries. In addition, the data is processed or stored on the basis of the legitimate interest in preventing misuse and fraud and in the security of the information-technology systems, pursuant to Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO.

Providing your data is neither legally nor contractually required. However, certain details such as your name, a means of contact and your message are necessary in order to process and respond to your enquiry. Without these details, your enquiry cannot be handled.

Storage period

Unless further communication follows the contact and no statutory retention obligations preclude it, the personal data stored in this context is deleted after an inactivity period of no more than three years.

Objection and erasure

You may withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal data at any time by e-mail. In the event of a withdrawal, all personal data stored in the course of the contact is deleted, unless its retention is required for the performance of a contract, the carrying out of pre-contractual measures, or compliance with legal obligations such as statutory retention periods.

Recipients of the data

The recipient of personal data is the hosting provider of this website, World4You Internet Services GmbH, Wolfgang-Pauli-Straße 2/BT3, 4020 Linz. It provides the website technically; messages sent via the contact form are also transmitted to the practice mailbox through its infrastructure. A data-processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 DSGVO is in place with the provider. Processing takes place predominantly within the European Union. Where data is transferred to a third country, this is safeguarded by appropriate guarantees pursuant to Art. 44 ff. DSGVO. To provide its services, the provider may engage further processors, which it binds accordingly by contract.

Rights of data subjects

For data-protection matters, PhDr. Barbara Gawel is available through the contact options provided, in particular by e-mail. Data subjects have the following rights under the DSGVO.

  • Pursuant to Art. 15 DSGVO, there is a right to obtain confirmation as to whether personal data is being processed, as well as information about that data, the purpose of processing, the categories of data concerned, the recipients and the envisaged storage period.
  • Pursuant to Art. 16 DSGVO, there is a right to the rectification of inaccurate personal data and to the completion of incomplete personal data, which may also be done by means of a supplementary statement.
  • Pursuant to Art. 17 DSGVO, there is a right to the erasure of personal data where its storage is no longer necessary, consent has been withdrawn, or the data has been processed unlawfully. Certain exceptions apply where processing is necessary for exercising the right to freedom of expression, for compliance with a legal obligation, or for reasons of public interest.
  • Pursuant to Art. 18 DSGVO, there is a right to the restriction of processing where the accuracy of the personal data is contested, the processing is unlawful, the controller no longer needs the data, or an objection to processing has been lodged.
  • Pursuant to Art. 20 DSGVO, there is a right to data portability for personal data provided to a controller. This must be done in a structured and machine-readable format and may, on request, be transmitted to another controller.
